How do long distance phone calls work?

Question

If someone calls me do i pay for long distance or do they? and if they have free long distance do i pay? If i make a long distance call do i pay or do we both pay? and if they have free long distance do i pay?

A lot of these questions run together, but I need help with this.

We all pay to have phone service..............

Free, you, they, we, all pay

It depends.  If you are on a land line.  they pay.  If on a cell you may have to use minutes that you are allowed

If someone calls you long distance, you don't pay for it.  The calling party does even if they have free long distance.  You only pay for calls you initiate.
