  1. There is no real way to predict a hurricane. Meteorologists use data such as water temperature, wind patterns, jet stream, humidity levels, etc to determine if the climate conditions are favorable for an active hurricane season. Once a storm comes off the African coast, its development determines if it will become a hurricane. The stages for a hurricane are low pressure area, tropical disturbance, tropical depression, tropical storm, and hurricane. Once a storm shows signs of development, the National Hurricane Center will track it and send military aircraft into the center of the storm to collect data. Again, on the basis of the jet stream, water current, etc, the NHC will give the best provided track of the storm and determine how strong/weak the storm is.

  4. Atmospheric scientists who forecast the weather are known as operational meteorologists; they are the largest group of specialists.Their data come from weather satellites, radars, sensors, and stations in many parts of the world. These forecasts inform not only the general public, but also those who need accurate weather information for both economic and safety reasons, such as the shipping, air transportation, agriculture, fishing, forestry, and utilities industries.

Doppler radar, for example, can detect airflow patterns in violent storm systems, allowing forecasters to better predict thunderstorms, flash floods, tornadoes, and other hazardous winds, and to monitor the direction and intensity of storms.
