  1. The main tools are satellite pictures and aircraft reconnaissance missions.  The recon missions fly into the hurricane, collect and send back valuable data on the strength of a hurricane as well as the environment the hurricane is located.  Surface based radars are also used when a hurricane moves close enough to land that the radar can detect it.


  2. When the hurricane is far away,satellite pictures help to track the storm;Further upper wind data collected by the radiosonde(or rawinsonde) instruments released with meteorological balloons from various stations around the storm(even if the station is far away) will indicate the height upto which the cyclonic circulation (anti-clockwise in the N.H.)

    above the storm exists.The higher the circulation the stronger the storm.Sometimes the circulation may be more than 12 Kms.

    When the storm comes nearer,the radars can accurately track the storms.
