  1. The linear motions of the earth do not have any effect and even the rotational motion about its axis scarcely reduces the gravitational force that we feel. However, these motions, together with the influence of the moon, raise and lower the tides, which affect those of us whose lives are close to the sea.

Due to the light and heat that come from the sun, the two kinds of rotation of the earth about both its own axis and about the sun, (which translates to being at about 22 degrees to this previously described direction) cause us  to experience:

    1) day and night and

    2) the summer and winter differences in the length of the day and the associated average temperatures. (This applies to us who live not too close to the equator, that is to say outside the two tropics of Cancer and Capricorn).

  2. Rotation causes day and night for us.

Revolution in conjuction with the tilt of the earth's axis causes us to have seasons.
