Question:

How do motogp riders figure out the track?

i watched a few races and from the riders view the camera's shot of the track looks like a sea. no lines to guide them only the banks at the curves. do they have the track fully mapped out from their minds? i can't imagine the level of focus it must take to do that.

  1. i think that there is a certain ammount that in genetically engineered into the top riders....ther is no substitute for raw talent

  2. Well don't forgot they get a few days for practice runs and to qualify so I am sure by then they do get the track mapped out in their head.

  3. thare that good...

  4. before every race a rider would try the track. before every race they must qualify before they will be allowed to join.

  5. Top level racers will usually walk or ride a pushbike around a new track to familiarise themselves with the layout. They also have maps of the circuit that they study.

The main way to learn is to ride the track on their bike, the first few practice laps of a new circuit are done slowly, to check braking points and to check the track surface (this applies to every track they race at as conditions may have changed since they last raced there).

Remember, the top racers are professionals, so they can learn a new track faster than the average person....10 laps of a new track is about all they need to know it well enough to race, but they will ride as many laps as possible on a new track during practice so they can know it as well as possible.

  6. Some of the racers play games on the Playstation etc. to learn the best braking spots ... and they go for practice sessions there

    hope this helped

  7. Yeh , interesting question?? Barry sheene would put a friend on every corner of the race track just so he could find out Track positions other riders were using and more importantly what gear they were in so he could find that next one tenth of a second. Was my pleasure to be in the pits at Phillip Island in 2003 when Anthony West set the fastest lap in the rain as he does. Then the sun came out and we went to every corner and did the same thing,At southern loop Fonsi Nietos bike was revving harder, than Wests out of the hay shed , and were able to pass that info onto Westie figuring he had chosen a slightly higher third sprocket in the gearbox.Running, cycling or scooters are good prior to Warm up but theres nothing like finding the rhythm.

    Keep the stikkisidedown !

  8. they get plenty of practice laps, and warm up sessions.  they are typically on the track by Thursday for a race on Sunday.

I have played a ton of moto gp for xbox, and i could map the tracks easy, and even the gear i should be in.  I must imagine they even have a higher level of detail, like bumps and best line.

  9. They get lots of time to learn the tracks, and there is not a single rider out there who will NOT say, they did pick up a PS3 or XBOX to learn a circuit.

Take Ben Spies as an example: Never seen Donny Park, never been to England before !

In the wet, was lapping 8th. In the race, came home 14th. Fantastic !!!

    Pure talent.
