Question:

How do mushrooms appear year after year when there is no sign of them between seasons?

  1. What you see and identify as mushroom is ONLY  the fruiting body of that species .

    It appears when conditions are good .

    Then you see them as they sprout above the ground !!!

    The rest of the body ( It is called Mycelium in technical lingo.)is BELOW  the soil surface , so you do not see it , and feel as if they have gone!!!

  2. Spores.  The reproductive output of mushrooms are spores.  These lay dominate until conditions are right for the particular species.  Then they grow.  And repeat the cycle.  Spores are very very small, microscopic.  So it would be impossible for you to see them.
