  1. Ethidium bromide. It is a very thin planar molecule that can insert between base pairs of a chromosome. Polymerases can get "confused" when it comes across them in DNA and think an extra base is supposed to be inserted in there.

  2. Radiation. It knock out chunks of it.

  3. There can be a base substitution, i.e., Missense: one base is deleted which can lead to the wrong amino acid being made.

Nonsense: One base is changed or deleted leading to a pre-mature STOP Codon.  Frameshift Mutations: when several bases are deleted, resulting in the Shift of the entire sequence.

UV rays alter the structure by causing the bases to move too tightly together, esp. Thiamine, which means they are unable to break the Hydrogen Bond.

Radiation and chemicals generally cause a change in the shape of the DNA bases.

  4. mutations can occur in several ways

    deletions

    additions

    slippage

    crossovers

    frameshift

    tandem repeats

    etc....

    etbr..good one

    deaminating agens...
