Question:

How do one way flight tickets work?

I'm planning on going to the UK for a trip and then take another flight from London to India and meet up with family there on an unassigned date. I was planning on taking a one-way ticket to London, staying there and then taking a flight from there to India. My stay in London will not exceed one month. Would this work out? How long am I allowed to be in London? What documents do I need to carry for the officials at the London airport?

I will book the ticket to India from London while I'm in London. I will do this as soon as I know when my family will be headed there (from Toronto). Until then, am I allowed to stay in London (with relatives)?

I hold a Canadian passport.

  1. You should be good to go. Keep in mind that tickets are less expensive if purchased in advance. You should be booking your London to India travel now already. I know Winter Texans from Canada that say they are allowed to be outside Canada up to 6 months without their medical insurance being suspended. You should also look into a Toronto - London return ticket with flexable date now already. You wouldn't want to pay full fare. I hope this helps.

  2. Unless you'll be in India for over 11 months you should look into a return ticket. Its much cheaper than 2 one-way tickets.

Also look at tickets with BA who might be able to fly you from Canada to India with a stoppover in London. This should save you considerably more than buying multiple one-way tickets.
