How do people afford these toys?

I went to Lake of the Ozarks over the weekend and got to see some boat races. I was amazed at the number of people out there with these 30+ feet cigarette boats and 1/2 million dollar cruisers. Guys that looked younger than me would be driving them and i am 29. Really confuses me as to what these people do to afford such things. You know there aren't that many doctors and lawyers out there...and can't be that many crack dealers.

  1. There's also the possibility that some of these youngsters work for various boat dealerships, and they're out there on the lake with these boats as a form of advertising.  Or they could just be the driver for the boat, and the boats themselves are owned by others or are sponsored.  Racing is racing, whether it's NASCAR, NHRA, or whatever, and they all have sponsors.  I would gladly take possession of a Cigarette racing boat, if it was free, & then sell it and put the money to better use!  F**k all that debt, that s**t's for the birds!

  2. poster one is very correct -- i consider my self fairly smart and if i would out the loan arrangements i could go in debt about a 3 or 4  million or so with out any problem and for about a year i could juggle figures around and with a little luck get by == but who really wants to live that way =-= i would rather be debt free and have all the money i can ever spend!!

  3. What seems more likely... these guys are rich because they did really good in school and went to college and got a good job, or that daddy paid for that boat and these punks have never worked a day in their lives? Don't rule out that they may also be in debt beyond your wildest dreams.

  4. It's called D E B T.

  5. I lived there years ago.  My then husband was a boat mechanic!  We were young and had nothing.  The couple I knew that were from KC, he was the head maintenance man at a college, she was a hair stylist.  They had 2 kids and had a boat like you described.  The husband had a Dodge Viper.  The husband's parents and them had two houses right together.  They had gotten boo-coo money from the deceased grandpa.  They were also in debt to their necks.  I never understood how dragging kids, dog, all your c**p, getting groceries for a second house and trying to take care of kids while drinking and boat riding was fun.
