  1. i think that they drain out the oil from the ocean and use it some how. on land i think they dig out the area that the oil was spilled but i am probably completely wrong

  2. I saw a special where the ocean absorbs oil and even secretes it from deep on the ocean floor.  Nature has an amazing way of self-cleaning organic products.

Since we haven't had a tanker oil spill in the US in nearly 40 years, I'm not sure what they used back then.  Probably detergents or something.  I guess they didn't know it wasn't necessary back in those days.

  3. Oil spills happen frequently all over the world.

They can let it be, break it up to hasten its natural movement, try to collect it by human means or add biological agents to try to negate its effects.

One company is working on massive mats made of human hair (gross, huh?) that could be tossed into an oil spill. Seems hair collects oil like you wouldn't believe, but repels water. Just as a teenager. The oil can be wrung out of the hair mats and disposed of safely.
