How do people color in their pictures so well on photoshop?

Question

How do people, like people who remake pictures of anime or something from their drawings on devianart, color their pictures like that?

I never found a proper tutorial that taught me how...

Okay, I know part of this answer is obvious: practice and skill. But beyond that, the biggest trick that most people miss in Photoshop is using Layers. The Layers palette is your friend: you always want to have it open. Think of Layers as being a stack of transparent or translucent sheets of paper. You can put different parts of your image on separate Layers and move the Layers around (just by dragging them in the Layers palette). So a lot of people work by sketching out what they want with pencil and paper, then scanning that sketch into Photoshop. That sketch goes on one layer. Then they may outline over that sketch on a new layer. And then put a layer under the outline  layer and add one part of the color. Then they add another layer and add more color. And so on. By using layers, you can add different colors and effects without messing up what you have already done. It also lets you get away with being a little bit "sloppy" because say you want to color one area that's partially under another area, that layer above where you are adding color will cover up overlaps.
