  1. years ago it was a jean past on through families these days it brought on by drug and alcohol induced schizophrenia chemicall imbalance in the brain which can be well managed if treated right

  2. Its just a mental illness.

something usually triggers it like child abuse.

  3. its an illness like anything else and you can develop it, most commonly you develop it in your teens. but it can happen as an adult too. also some people get it from medication like the one im on which effects your mental health and can bring it on, but that is very uncommon to happen.

  4. Schizophrenia is a biochemical imbalance in the brain that usually appears in late teens, early adulthood. It is considered to be hereditary. Stress, drugs can trigger its onset. Medication is required to control the symptoms.

Some people, once they've found the right combination of drugs, are able to function along without episodes.

  5. Hi

Please use this link to the Mind website

    Understanding schizophrenia:

    http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Bookl...

the information is easy to read and understand.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Some syndromes have a high incidence of it like velocardiofacial syndrome so i guess its just some imbalance of the brain maybe

  7. Im the first in my familys history to have it. idk what caused it, but i was sexually abused as a kid and physically abused, my grandfather used to take drugs and abuse alcohol, and my family has a history of bipolar - depression. it may have something to do with it

  8. The exact cause of Schizophrenia is unknown.

There are a few different theories e.g. genetic vulnerability, stress vulnerability, social deprivation etc.  E.g. Increased risk in people with a family history of schizophrenia

Also using drugs can cause psychosis.

About 1% of the population have schizophrenia, its onset is usually in early adulthood.

The general concenus is that it is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused primarily by genetic factors.

    Hope this helps xx.

  9. I've heard about a theory that it could be caused by a virus, and a genetic predisposition. There's no proof of a virus, though. It has a tendency to run in families, like other mental illnesses.

  10. From what I've read and heard, it's thought there is a genetic predisposition to schizophrenia, and an environmental event triggers it, although that is just conjecture.

You might check out these websites:

    http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publicati...

    http://www.nami.org

    http://www.schizophrenia.ca/files/Rays_o...

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/schizop...

They have a lot of very good information on schizophrenia.  The first three websites have booklets in pdf format that you can download and save for future reference.

    You might also check out:

    www.healthcentral.com/schizophrenia

They have forums and Q&A, there is a lot of interesting information there too.

There is also an excellent book, "Surviving Schizophrenia: A Manual for Families, Patients, and Providers" by E. Fuller Torrey, Fifth Edition.  I know Barnes & Noble has it.  Amazon.com only has the 4th edition.  That is very good reading and tells a lot about schizophrenia.

  11. No one is really sure, but it is hereditry, which means if a parent has it your 10% likey to have it, if a relative does 5% and none 1%.

  12. Well it is hereditary.  So people are technically born with it and when they grow it comes out.. so if you have a family history of it you have a much bigger chance of getting it,.  People who abuse drugs also have a large chance of getting it.  Hope i helped ;]

  13. one can have it from birth, but will not see symptoms or get diagnosed until they are in their late teens.  both environmental factors, such as

problems in birth, etc.and a person's genes can be a cause.  i looked it up.  but, i have a son with it.  he did not get diagnosed until he was 25 years old. it is not necessarily something someone gets as much as it is, something  someone has.  no need to worry, ok?

  14. There is still no definitive answer to this question, I'm afraid.

There is strong indication of genetic causation, but even so some children born to parents with diagnosed schizophrenia don't develop the illness.  And other people do develop it who have no family history of the illness.

Go to the website of Rethink ( used to be called the National Schizophrenia Fellowship) - they have lots of useful information.

  15. There is no proof that people who abuse narcotics will develop schizophrenia. Oftentimes people become convinced that their loved one's drug use was related to their developing the illness, however this is because drug experimentation usually occurs around college-age, which is also the most average onset age for schizophrenia. Research has not found any link between drug use and development of schizophrenia.

As with most mental illnesses, schizophrenia is developed by both nature and nurture. There are genetic and environmental factors that trigger the onset of the illness. You do not have to have a family history of schizophrenia to develop the illness, but if you have a history of the illness in your family studies have found that the chance you could develop the illness in greater. Genetic studies have made leaps and bounds as of late in uncovering exactly what genes and gene mutations are involved in development of schizophrenia.
