How do people get worms in their eyes?

I heard when the worms are larvae (first stage of worm), if you were to rub that in your own eyes, they will grow to worms and will live off the nutrients provided by your eyes. I know it's gross, and it is a lesson to be learned.

They look like hook worms you can get them in your feet by walking on the grass. It is called ground itch.

The most common source of worms in peoples eyes (in America) are dogs.  What are heart works in dogs become 'eye worms' in people.  The route of contamination is usually dogs f***s to human hands to ingestion by humans, migration to eye.

In Africa there is a parasite in water carried by snails that when humans get it moves to there eyes but the parasite is rarely called worms.

It's caused by the Loa loa worm, a nematode found in Africa.  Biting flies transmit the infection from person to person.  Here's a good site on the subject.
