How do people grow intellectually and in other ways?

How do people grow in general (other than physically)? How do people grow intellectually?

The answer before mine is probably the best, but I will also answer.  I think getting a challenging job helps you grow.  Getting to know people who are different from you also helps.  I've never done a lot of volunteer work, but I think that would help also.  

When you understand that many people have bigger responsibilities than just trying to look attractive, that's a big step.  When I was a kid, I didn't understand why some people didn't dress well, didn't maintain their appearance, etc.  Now I get it . People have kids, elderly parents, demanding jobs, home repairs, etc.

every experience makes up grow mentally to grow intellectually is to gain knowledge and the ability to apply it, even interacting with people makes us grow it teaches us a better ability to deal with things like rejection and and even happy times being alone to much is unhealthy

variety and challenge, constantly challenging your mind will help it to become stronger and repetition leads to dementia.  Also if you support locke's blank slate philosophy every experience helps us grow.
