  1. First of all, as someone earlier said, dogs are actually not fully color blind.  They are technically red-green color blind, but dogs can see some yellows and many shades of blues and grays.  And doctors and scientists performed studies to find out what colors dogs can see.  Dogs were observed while using different colored objects; such as by having dogs fetch different colored objects, it can be determined approximately what colors dogs can see.  John D already gave you a page from this site, but I'm going to give you a link to that same site that has a little more info on the actual studies that were done to see what colors dogs can see: http://www.uwsp.edu/psych/dog/LA/davis2....  That site not only has info about studies and such, but it also has images of a dog's color spectrum compared to a human's color spectrum.

    Best wishes!

  3. Dogs are, in fact, NOT completely colorblind.

Every living being has rods and cones in their eyes. These are little sensors to pick up certain rays of light/color/tone, etc.

By looking at the rods and cones in a dogs' eye, you can tell if they do/do not see color.

So, dogs do IN FACT have cones in their eyes-but, they do not have as many as, say people do.

  4. dog's are not colour blind. I'm not sure about all of them, but there has been tests to many different dogs. For example, one girl takes her dog to work, and she has to wear a red shirt to work, it could be tank top, t-shirt- long sleeved, but it has to be red. Everytime she put on a red shirt, the dog got excited because he knew it was time to go to work. Another test that has been done was when there were 100 red balls, and the owner taught her dog what the colour blue is, so out of the 100 red balls, there was one blue, and the dog had to find it, and it found it correctly 3/3 times.

  5. I believe that all dogs are color blind and can only see 2 different types of pigments.

  6. Not all dogs are color blind.  Some can be though.  I have one of those red laser pointers for presentations - well three of my dogs go nuts when I shine the light on the floor - the would chase it for hours if I left them.  However, my terrier mix does not react at all - she can not see the red light.
