How do people register with Yahoo! to join groups, without starting a Yahoo! email account?

I have a Yahoo! Group which persons would like to join.

They already have email accounts through other providers that they would like to keep, and they don't want a new email account at Yahoo!

Such persons used to be able to register a Yahoo! ID and password without opening an email account - but things have changed.

How do they register to join the my Yahoo! Group without starting a Yahoo! email account?

I have a Yahoo account but I don't use it. When I joined Yahoo groups and answers I just listed my hotmail accounts as my e-mail address. They accept that and any e-mails I get in response to my posts goes to my hotmail account. I must say I'm glad I did because I've seen posts of people who've had their accounts suspended for violations and they've complained that they can't get into their e-mail anymore. At least if I get suspended for some reason I don't have to worry about accessing my e-mail.

I haven't gone through the account process in a long time. it could be you have to also have the e-mail but no one has to use it in their groups however it is good to have in case their own server mail goes down. once a person goes to the sign up for a group, there is a choice on that page (add new e-mail) which the confirm and they can use that.

go to this link- http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs click add email address on top left- follow steps and confirm address.

then go to this link http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups click edit my groups on the top left- locate group (if there's more than one) under the column Email Address click the arrow for the drop down box and select new address- click save changes
