people always say when there young they want to be a docter but it takes forever

that's exactly why most students don't finish their medical degrees. It takes that much schooling and a lot more to be trusted with a life, especially with today's malpractice costs. also, all that school and the continuing hardship beyond it is a great way to weed out those who don't really want to be a doctor. It's one of the best ways to ensure that doctors have at least some of the right values and motivation.
