OK now that we know that the Royals cost us 66p per year each, how do the die-hard republicans feel about their taxes going to such worthy causes as this?

If we were to have a "vote" on whether to keep the Royals or not, can we, as taxpayers, also have a vote on whether to carry on keeping these sterling examples of humanity in the manner to which they are accustomed as well?

I'd much sooner spend 66p a year on Her Maj. At least she does something for the country.

  1. Even if this was true and we only have the royal accountants word for it why should sixty million people have to pay them 66 pence

  2. 66p sounds such a small amount doesn't it?

    £40,000,000 is what they cost

  3. They are worth every penny

  4. Questions like this come up all the time.  In actual fact the Monarchy costs the British taxpayers absolutely nothing.  Taking into account all tax revenues, the Monarchy is a nett contributor.

Republicans always use the cost factor when it comes to the Monarchy, which just goes to show how out of touch they are with reality.

  5. i like the royal family . at least they  pay their way. the 66 pence is for security and policing. they pay their own way, they own their houses and i would rather my 66 pence went to them  than to the good for nothing useles TwAts in your link

  6. I'm sorry but I don't agree I have tremendous respect for QE but I believe the R family is an outdated principle that should have been left in the middle ages when it had some relevance. What they don't tell you is all the hidden cost of maintenance of the R Residences and all other background running costs that probably goes into the Billions the 66p is just the R family running cost(wage bill if you like) not the R family institution's running cost. you've been suckerd in like the rest of them it's more like 2,3 billion a year more like £4-£500 a person.

  7. keep the royals, i dont mind paying for them, either.

but we must  get rid of the scum bag scroungers, with umpteen kids, never worked,-===why should they when the gov is paying them 500+quid a week====and cant understand why they should.

  8. i would rather have lizzy and that crazy greek(he makes me laugh) shes married to than president blair

  9. the Royal family are un-elected dictators... we dont have any rights or vote to get rid of them... UP THE REPUBLIC...

  10. The way I see it is that at least there is some benefit to the country in having a monarchy because of foreign tourists etc.

There is no benefit to the country in paying all that money to a serial scrounger. That man has no intention of actually working to pay his way & the fault is not entirely his. Our benefits system has allowed him to get used to living like this.

Surely, without being too harsh, he should, at the very least, be given some education to prevent him spawning any more children to be more of a drain on the coffers since 17 children is more than enough for anyone that can afford them let alone someone who can't.

Also the guy with £500k in the bank that is living on benefits is not entirely to blame either. Our benefit fraud detection office should surely have been able to find out about him. If a newspaper can then surely a government agency could.

Our country is too quick to give financial aid to everyone without doing relevant checks.

  11. 66p a year is a laughable amount, and the queen's family does a good share of charity work, benefits and cultural promotion...as well as provide plenty of "news" for hundreds of national and international magazines, so I say it's worth much more than what her subjects pay.

  12. Republic has today repeated its demand for reforms to royal spending after the annual report from Buckingham Palace showed an inflation-busting 6.5 percent jump in costs.

The £40m total figure included an average cost of £46,000 per train journey, £138,000 for the Duke of York's to visit the US, and £18,900 for a single trip to the pub by the Prince of Wales as part of his 'The Pub is the Hub' campaign. It also lists a £415,000 bill for the Queen's 5-day visit to the US in 2007, including a cost to UK taxpayers of £22,000 for a day trip to the Kentucky Derby.

    ***THESE ARE REAL FACTS***

They cost us a total of £150 million per year aka 60-something pence per person

That is not right, and i believe that money would be put better to use by funding our soldiers properly, better facilities in hospitals and schools... and getting UK CITIZENS of the streets!

  13. Having royality is so primitive that it is supriseing to me in this day and age anyone would allow it.

I would say get rid of the lot of them and use the money to help the poor and starving in your country who have poor if any health care.  While these lazy no good buns drain the country of its revenue.

IN the USA Texas we would lynch the lot of them.

  14. the 66p does not take into account all the costs of having a monarchy AND not every single person in the UK is a tax payer so not every single person pays that 66p.  In all honesty tax payers are paying a h**l of a lot more than 66p to keep an out dated institution like the House of Windsor

  15. Im sorry your majesty but i disagree,Its not about the money, its about us moving forward and embraceing the 21st century.Fuedal Britain ceased to exist in the 17 century its about time we stopped paying  paying this bunch of spongers and all the hangers on.

  16. And that's not mentioning the Royal Accounts bringing in 100 million a year for the tax payer.

bobby, Texans probably would lynch them That shows just how civilised Texans are doesn't it?

  17. I am not a royalist but happy to pay for them.  UNHAPPY  to pay for all the foreigner freeloading here.  They don't like us or or country but just use it, us and I would pay a tenth of my income to see them all sent packing.   God only really knows what her maj thinks when she goes to these mixed raced schools and cities, she was inwardly wee;p.

  18. extreme example after extreme example, and i do question the sources used.  You obviously do not like the thought of a welfare state, or rather the thought of this one as it is now.

Yet I do know what you mean so much of our tax money is wasted, for example a road near me was given an extra lane not so long ago, for erm, erm  like a mile, so that lorries and cars can overtake, great idea - I think not.

I wold love to see a referendum on what to do with the "royals"  personally we should have went the same path as the French on this issue.

the so called "royals" take millions upon millions from us, and where is the say?  where is the say!  At least for a Gov't spending our money we have elected them, and we can, if we wish dump them at a next election, but we cannot do that for the "royals"  they live a life luxury, not all from the tax man giving them Money, but my god it helps.

Ditch the "Royal Family" and elect another version of a head of state, doesn't have to be the PM.  just an elected em, king / queen every 4 or 5 years, at least it would still being in tourism, yet mostly to the London area...
