It's kind of a life dream of mine to start my own charity but I was wondering how do people who run charities actually make an income to support themselves?

  1. Try comparing the money earned by directors of charities to directors of similar sized companies and you will find the charity directors get far more!!!!

What is even more interesting is looking at what such a small percentage of donations ever goes to the charitable cause!!!!

  2. Of course, charities are non-profit organizations. Therefore, they don't have enough resources to fund their own.

However, charities may tap different agencies, private institutions, and the government to finance or give financial support to their project/program.

Most likely, if the project/program is really good, the request for funding can be easily approved.

In the budget requirement, you may include the expenses to be incurred by the involved persons (those who compose the project team).

But, you must also take note that most of the non-government organization workers usually don't get regular salary. Most of the time they are paid in project basis. Meaning, those who only worked for a certain project get an honorarium or a compensation.

Thus, it should be understood that charities are volunteer work which means "doing good work without pay."

Finally, only a few people love to work in NGOs because of lack of money. However, it is the fulfillment that you get from helping others that define your success.

    God Bless you!

  3. non-profit organizations are regulated differently than ordinary corporations.  The major differences are that non-profit organizations usually have some type of salary cap for the owners and employees, and non-profit organizations have bigger tax breaks so that they keep most of their revenues.

Non-profit organizations usually earn their money from fund-raising, and government plans.

It is hard, but if you are raising money for a good cause and there are little competitions, then it should be good.  Wishing you all the best for doing this.

  4. When they start off its from their own pockets then as more donations start coming in they get paid from that

  5. What you'd guess: Skim off the top.
