  1. Ok, I can help you in this one as I live in Lima.

St. Rose is the patron saint of Peru, America, The antilles and the Phillipines. She was born Isabel Flores de Oliva and she got the name of Rose as when she died, lots of rose petals fell from the sky onto her body filling the air with a beautiful rose fragrance. She was the daughter of quite a rich man (Spanish man living in Peru) but she preferred to live in poverty helping the sick and poor.

In Lima there is a big church built especiall for her (Convento de Santa Rosa). In this Church you can find a water well. People always go to the well and write their wishes on pieces of paper and throw then to the well asking her for favours. In this Church you also see a lillte kind of mud hut that she built with her own hands in the garden where she would go in and pray. You can see her hand prints there and people go and touch this hut praying for favours.

Sta. Rosa's holiday is a national holiday in Peru and it is on August 30th (when she died). As a public holiday there are no schools that day and there are Mass services all over the country.

Apart from that there is always a small procession that goes out from her church and around downtown Lima with a statue of her. But the biggest celebration is going to her place and writing wishes for the well and visiting her tomb and offer her roses and attending Mass that day.

  2. I was there last year and saw a lot of processions, hundreds of people following the statue of St. Rosa. The statue is beautiful, all gold and jewels and flowers, it is carried around by 4 or 6 men, the congregation follows with candles in their hands. A band is playing.

The procession starts from the church, goes around town and returns to the church, where they celebrate mass.
