As I understand it the flowers are needed for the uptake of water as photosynthesis is the combining of sunlight, CO2 and water to make sugar and some extra water and oxygen

.

How can plants do it without flowers?

  1. Flowers are for reproduction, not photosynthesis.

The production of carbohydrates from photosynthesis occurs in the leaves as sunlight strikes them.

Flowers are a lure for pollinating animals such as bees.

  2. If i remember my biology (botany) correctly, photosynthesis occurs in the leaves rather than the flowers. so as long as there are green leaves, photosynthesis can occur

  3. Are you serious?  That's basic elementary school science!  Flowers are for reproduction, not photosynthesis.  Water is taken up by changes in pressure and cellular concentrations in the epidermal cells of hair roots.  If it were not possible to be done without the flowers, a plant would wilt and die before it ever had the chance to flower.

  4. all plants flower. And it does not need flowers at all anyways.

  5. plants do photosynthesis in leaves not in flowers they get water from the ground passing to the roots, and to its branches and into the leaves so even the plant don't have flower they can still do photosynthesis and can get water.getssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!??????????...

  6. As they have told you the flowers are for reproduction and not photosenthesis. The plant gets it's water through its roots. The roots pores which take up water and nutrients from the soil. That is why you need to water the ground around the plant regularly. You don't water the flowers but the soil.

The flowers are only there for pollination. Others have explained how photosynthesis occurs already but if you need any help go to this web site.

  7. in theory,. i thought osmosis caused plant life but what ever people who only talk like to think about isnt the same as whats in the real world i guess i will never get it

  8. Paul, don't forget that only angiosperms have flowers, yet they are not the only plant group that uses photosynthesis to make sugars for their metabolic needs. Conifers, ferns, mosses, etc. have been happily photosynthesizing for millions of years, without flowers.

  9. I thought the roots were responsible for that and the flowers are just for reproduction? Maybe I didnt know that but i still think that the flower is just for reproduction.
