  1. If you play in a cash game then the poker room will take a small percentage of the pot, called the 'rake'.

If you play in a tournament, then there will be an entry fee. For example, you may see a tournament entry fee listed as $10 + $1. this would mean that your $10 goes into the winnings pot and the $1 goes directly to the poker room.

  2. poker sites make money through rakes,, this is a small percentage of the pot that goes to the house...

other sites offer other card games like black jack where the odds are in favor of the house,...

look at  this site: it gives you a capital for real money

for nothing in return... they get commision from the players they bring in to the pokerplatforms

just pass a quiz and they give you 50 $ for any poker platforms like pokerstars, fultilt, titan poker , partypoker and lots lots more you dont need to invest your money, no need to deposit, and no need to give account numbers or bank details

and dont forget to enter blacklabel77 as the referer

  4. There are two ways they make money.

In cash games, a small percentage of each pot goes to the house, this is known as the rake.  At the mid-level stakes it is typically 5% or $5, whichever is less.  Online the hands move whole lot faster than they do in live games so the rake can be considerable, the omaha games at this very second on full tilt are averaging between 55 hands an hour to 77 hands an hour, the rake really adds up. Obviously on the higher stake tables the rake is a wee bit higher (fulltilt and pokerstars both have games that 100k + pots take place, I watched a plo game that had 3 pots over 250k, and I am talking about real money)

In tournaments, there obviously aren't rakes, there is what we call the "vig" or the "juice".  This is the add on refered to by an earlier answer.  Last night, I played in the fulltilt sunday $750,000.00 tournament with an entry fee of $200.00 and a vig of $16.00 there were 3818 players in the tournament, so fulltilt made $42,788.00 with that tournament. There were other tournaments yesterday on fulltilt with a vig that high also.

Combining the rakes and the juice yesterday alone, fulltilt made well over 100k, it is a very lucrative operation.  Very rarely do the guarenteed tournaments on fulltilt not meet the minimum number of players so they seldom dip into their own pockets to meet the prize expectations.  Most online poker rooms have very few employees (comparable to say a casino or card room) so the overhead after up start wouldn't be much.  You know they are making money (the main ones at least) because of the pros they hire as spokespeople and the advertisement.

The only other outgoing moneys are the deposit bonuses and points but to get the bonuses you have to play so many raked hands for each dollar released and they basically are giving you the amount of the rake they get from you and the points work similar.

In response to some of the other answers, one, I have never paid to sign up on any site, heck, I have been paid to do it. Two, bots aren't necessary, the profits are from the rake and the juice and I don't know of any site that would risk the publicity if they got caught doing that, just look at what has happened to Absolute when it was found out that they had a cheat. Online poker is observed and reported on by literally hundreds of blogs, anything that looks semi-suspicious is imediately out on the internet, as a result of the scandal, Absolute has lost literally millions of dollars.

Just take the time to look at the cash games on your favorite site and you will see how the money adds up also look at the tournaments for the amount of players and what the juice is. I hope I helped answer your question, good luck.

  5. well they make loads of people join the game and put money in for a price, then they make them win less then the total amount so they get money.

    x*x

  6. from adds...

  7. because stupid people go on them.

  8. Hi,

They take "rake" - which is 1%-5% of the pot ... so if the pot is 1$ ... the winner takes 95 cents , and the poker room takes 5 cents ....

    Your friend PokerMaster111

  9. sometimes they put bogus players into matches who win meaning that they don't have to pay out to other people. They may also gewt money from people signing up

  10. when you sign up to a poker site to play for real 'on-line' you have to create a profile along with bank account details once this is done you have to buy credits and sometimes pay an weekly/monthly fee there is also loads of advertising on theses sites for all kinds of gambling, with the site charging you the user and the other companies for the advertisement space there is loads of money to be made

  11. Poker or gambling sites or portals makes alot of money by this way.

They make deal with tyraffic companies like this: http://www.Trafficflaw.com

Those companies have very good deals with the casinos and they makes a lot of money. When the sites owner register with them he gets special link that he can put or advertise in his site and when a player come to the casino from this link the traffic company (trafficflaw.com) got her pay for this player and then they transfer the share for the site holder (poker site/portal).

    hope it helps

  12. One of two ways, "the rake" and entry fees.  The rake is a percentage that the house, the website in this case, takes from each pot that is played in cash games.  In tournament games, sit-n-gos and multitable tournaments, each player pays an entry fee in addition to the money they are putting into the prize pool.  For instance, let's say a tournament costs $10 + $1, this mean each player is putting up $11, $10 goes into the prize pool which gets divided amongst the winners and $1 goes to the house (website).

Between these two methods of collecting money, a website makes plenty of cash and has absolutely no reason to risk their reputation or their site by installing robots players or any other scams you may have heard of.

In addition to this steady stream of income, the more popular websites have additional ways in which they can generate income.  This could include advertising revenue and television show production.

  13. When you enter a tournament, the cost will be X=Y.  X is the amount that goes to the prize pool, Y is the fee that the site (or casino/card room in a live game) charges to host it.  In a cash game, they charge a rake, usually 5-10% of each pot where there is a flop, and usually capped at a set amount.  The cap is determined my the blind sizes.  For example, the 1/2 live game I play in caps it at $5, a .01/.02 on-line might cap it at a nickel, and a $100/$200 limit game would cap it an $500 or more.  Obviously, they make more money from the bigger games.

Legit poker rooms do not have people who are paid to take your money.  One, there is no guarantee that they would win, and 2, the amount that they  would lose if they got caught from the fines and loss of business would be more than they would make from the ringers.

Gambling is not a sin, unless it takes over your life.  As long as you have a brain and don't play with more than you can afford to lsoe, there is nothing wrong with it.
