  1. How do they come about?  Hard to starboard!

  2. Poltergeist- Mischievous or annoying ghosts, for example things turn up missing then found in an obvious location, constant annoying noises like a tapping, banging, Electronics turning on and off etc.  (2nd theory)- these aren't ghosts and are caused by an overflow of human emotion mostly children and are very violent and stuff usually happened to the child who creates them

There are quite frankly a ton of theories on poltergeists.... the paranormal field is full of theories, theories are disproved everyday so for someone to give you a definite answer and it to be right, without proof you can't rely on something if there is not evidence to back it up...  i guess it just depends on your belief system.... I believe they exist and lived in a house with one in my personal opinion :

" I was six and lived in Trenton , MI . When the family and I were sitting on the living room couch watching TV, they all of the sudden heard a loud crash that sounded like glass breaking. We ran down stairs to find the remains a light bulb in swept into a dust pan with a broom standing next to it , between that experience many things happened in that home such as things flying across the TV stand onto the floor was one creepy experience.Another is when my mother one day was doing laundry and something screamed boo in her ear . What ever was there in the home struck me in the back with a shoving almost like a smack when i was sitting down and watching tv and shortly after My mom had told me at night she would hear footsteps around her bed at night on a daily basis.”

  3. Poltergeist phenomena is currently thought to be caused by RSPK (Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis).

This is often incorrectly associated with adolescence due to Frank Podmore of the Society for Psychical Research who concluded in his investigations (yes a skeptic that actually investigated something) that all poltergeist "could be attributed to tricky little boys and girls"

The theory is that unexpressed and unresolved emotional conflict (which would include teenagers) is the source of the RSPK that manifest in poltergeist activity. When this conflict can be expressed in a healthy way poltergeist phenomena usually ends and counseling has a very good record of ending poltergeist activity.

Two very famous cases are the "Miami" and "Rosenheim" poltergeist (see link below)

  4. In my experience, poltergeists are mischevious spirits (who either want to frighten you or hurt you) or spirits who want to get your attention by making a racket. I believe the word actually translates as "noisy spirit".

  5. Such a question can only be a matter of speculation, especially considering that nobody has ever provided compelling evidence of a poltergeist existing in the first place. Moreover, since you cannot go up to a poltergeist and ask it where it came from, how do you work backwards from a supposed poltergeist haunting to find the origin of this wandering spirit?

Basically, what I'm saying is that any answers to such a question are purely faith-based, like a religious belief. There is no objective data to even pretend that a conclusive answer can be given. It depends solely on what you believe. So expect many different answers, since religious beliefs are very diverse. Some might attribute poltergeist activity to spirits, others might attribute it to psychokinesis (also a faith-based belief), and others might attribute it to demons, but none of them actually know.

  6. Do they only come about? I was aware they can also come around, on top, inside, outside, upside down, inside out, and back again....I may have to dig deeper for this answer...I'll get back to you, I have to go fight a poltergeists in my bathroom...I'll let you know how it comes out...

  7. In my experience they don't.  Poltergeists have been blamed for any number of things in the past.  I have yet to see any sort of evidence they exist.  At least two investigations into poltergeists caught the children moving and throwing things themselves.

EDIT: "Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis" - LOL, that's a good one.  I couldn't invent a title that official-sounding if I tried.  It sounds so scientific doesn't it?

  8. I agree with TR we just don't know. There are many theories but no fact. It's a matter of opinion.

  9. Poltergeists are real... I have seen and heard what they are capable of...They are malevolent entity's with a weird sense of humor...

  10. They tack leeward.

  11. Dishonest living people make them up.
