  1. yes you pay a fee, they are just like a personal check, try the Post Office

  2. you can go to any post office and ask for a postal order for the amount you need, you may have to pay a bit more then all you have to do is fill in the counterfoil for you to keep and send the other to ebay, where they can cash it as soon as it arrives.

  3. Get it from the post office its only about 50p or something silly more just go to the post office and tell them you want a £10 postal order (or however much you want) then you pay the post office the £10 plus the extra small amount.

  4. Postal orders are easy to to use, and to buy.

Basically they work like a cheque - except that you buy them at the Post Office.

I'm not aware of any limits as to value, but for high values it would be better to ask your bank about a Bank Draft, or your building society for a building society cheque.

Postal orders do have a 'service charge' attached to them, and it varies according to the value of the PO.

Building societies (well, mine anyway) don't charge for a BS Cheque.

I can't comment on bank drafts, since I've never used one.

Once you have your PO, you can make it out for yourself, or the Post Office can do it for you.

All you need to do is to include it in the envelope with your eBay check-out form (the one you print in your "View Order Details"  --  -- "Printer Version" - [Print] .

The seller can bank the PO like a normal cheque.  The money is guaranteed, so really, there is no need to wait for it to 'clear' - though sellers often do!

If you make sure you've asked for it to be 'crossed' it means that no-one, except the intended recipient, can bank it, nor can it be cashed over the counter - it must be paid into a bank account, but is a safer option since it renders the PO useless to anyone else.

  5. You can buy postal orders from any post office. You do have to pay for them - it is 49p for anything under £5, 87p for £5-9.99, then it's 8.75% of the face value.

You just ask at the counter for postal orders to the value of...

See the post office website for more info - http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/ju...
