Lets say you've got a certain key: Am for example, so the chords are Am, Bdim, C, Dm, Em, F, G. How could I fit power chords into that?

  1. Power Chords are also called 5th chords, as they are comprised of a root and a fifth.

fifth chords are notated as *root name*5, for example C5.

Finding the power chords in any key as simple.

    Am becomes A5

Bdim is a special case (i'll talk about that later)

    C becomes C5

    Dm Becomes D5

    Em Becomes E5

    F Becomes F5

    G Becomes G5

For Bdim, although technically the 5 chord should be the root and the tri-tone together, most people subtitute the 5 chord from the Dorian mode and play it as a normal B power chord.
