If there is a leader that you admire and agree with their goals, learning from them should be very easy. Just watch whatever is presented about them on the news and read the newspaper. Also check online for their bios and other information.

As to how they affect our society. Prominent leaders become prominent by doing things that draw attention to them (this can be negative or positive) Look at George Bush, he's extremely prominent but he's got ALL negative attention because he's a ******* r****d. But what you're talking about is probably a very charismatic leader who is also a good public speaker and brings ideas to the table that benefit the masses. When these masses all become interested in certain leaders, the leaders gain support and that's how they get elected and etc. Then they just bring forth and set in motion whatever good ideas they had that got them elected in the first place. So yeah...
