How do refs check your lacrosse stick.?

i knew about if the ball was under the plastic it's illegal. but do they check it any other way

slide a very thin rod between ball and pocket. if the rod passes over top of ball. find local copy of excuse book . or, kep sidewall strings , slightly loose . yank hard when ref grabs stick . as soon as ref , gives stick back . loosen string . not that this have been done before . rules are made to be adjusted . not broken . never did this . no idea were it came from .

They put a ball in the cross and hold it level at eye level to see if there is any light visible above the ball between the ball and the bottom rail of the head.
