How do scammers fake a phone number for caller ID?

My husband just got a scam phone call from someone offering to lower the interest rate on our credit cards and then trying to get our information over the phone, which of course he didn't accept. But he tried calling back their phone number that appeared on our caller ID, and it wasn't a working number. He's curious how people can do that - not like he's gong to do it himself, but he wonders how it's possible to fake a number.

they use a caller ID spoofing card....you can get it for only 10 dollars...and change your voice too.....usually those kinda phone calls are only to call out not in!! I hate those shysters!!

try using the *77 on your phone from now on...its forces them to give there real number, or the call wont go thru..
