How do scents work? just curious.

I know about light and sound but how does scent travel? This has never been explained at school and I was just curious.

  1. I assume it travels like a gas filling up a container. It wafts through the air and into your nose. It can also be forced like air or water through a tube. I think.


  2. Absolutely by diffusion...

    Particles in the scent travel from one area to other due to change in concentration.

    The scent particles are sensed by the respiratory organs(buds) & the feel is produced...

  3. molecules like to move from a higher concentration area to a lower concentration area.  I am pretty sure it is called diffusion.  Scent spreads to areas of lower concentration by moving through the air.
