  1. I would just get good pellet gun and be humane about it. That is if you live in town. Perhaps you could get a dog to keep back there. Im not opposed to you shooting rabbits, jsut snares are kind of mean unless you are right there to take care of things. If you are there already jsut shoot em. Or get the dog.

  2. Snares are easy and cheap.

I wouldn't use a foot snare though. Find a path that you know the animal travels and hang the snare at the height were that animals head will be and make the loop a little bit larger than the intended preys head. When it's head goes through the loop it will feel the wire, panic, then try to bolt causing the snare to close. The more it fights the tighter it gets and it will eventually strangle itself. This way you don't have to worry about dealing with an angry and very much alive opossum with its foot in a snare. It also saves you a bullet.

If you use thinner wire than what is used in the above link you don't really need to do that whole washer lock thing. Just make a slipknot and wrap the excess wire back around itself so it looks kind of like a hangman's noose. The animal will pretty much always keep fighting until it's dead so you really don't need the lock.

I dont use string to anchor the snare like that guy though, i just anchor the wire right on to something. It makes it easier to position.

  3. How's about making a fence around your back yard. That way they won't get killed by your gun and you'll be happy with them not eating your vegetables or plants. Either way, both sides will be happy then.

  4. YOUR BEST IF U DONT WANT TO KILL THEM ,IS TO USE A TRAP YOU GET FROM YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL .IT WILL NOT HARM THEM,A SNARE ON ANORM LETS THEM WALK ONE WAY BUT CANT GO BACKWARDS.

  5. Ted, I am asking you not to make a snare trap.  You might inadvertently catch a neighborhood cat or dog, injuring or killing it.

My son and I were out walking and came upon a poor, dead possum that had been caught in a snare.  It had broken off all its nails, fingers, and even hands trying to free itself.  I cannot imagine the fear and pain that it died with... I wish I had never seen it (I wish to God I could forget it).

Have you thought of WHY the rabbits are coming into your yard?  They fear people and only come because they really need something to eat.  People and what people do is driving them out of their natural areas.  Plus we have killed off their natural predators, so they overpopulate.

Have compassion and try to find a way to preserve your veggies without cold, heartless torture and killing.  You are a human, please be humane.
