alot of the drivers use their own vehicles that have snow plows on them. They plow their way there. Others have 4-wheel drive trucks they use . they will find a way to work if they want to earn $$$$$

A question that has puzzled many for centuries ---- well decades really

remember it snowed heavily once over a bank holiday weekend.  So no counicil workers were out from Thursay night till Tuesday morning.    The snow ploughs and gritters trucks are stored in a depo in a small valley. So when the drivers turned up for work after the long weekend of heavy snow, they found all the vehicles and the depo under several feet of snow.

It took them almost a week to dig the  ploughs and the gritters out and back on the roads

I used to live in Jersey and worked for public transit.

When the storm was coming we would put crews on 4 hours in advance to guarantee they would be on the job and in a safe area.

Plow operators have the same routine. they report to work early and then position a truck in a strategic place to begin the cleaning.

The same as everyone else, they drive. I used to work security for the Ohio Dept of Transportation and I did notice one morning that a unusually high number of them do drive 4-wheel-drive vehicles to get to work.

They are usually working as the snow has just started falling.  When we used to get called for plowing, we'd get the call when the snow was barely an inch deep, or we'd know because the forecast called for heavy snow and we received our notices before we left work the previous day.

It's much easier to run over the same pavement than it is to remove several inches of packed down powder that cars drove over before we plowed.  Heavy snow beats the snot out of the equipment, especially when someone hits a buried curb.  That's why lots of companies put sticks along the curbing to mark it for plows.
