How do sociologists view the reasons teens join gangs?

Yes, it is a paper and i don't want to hear anything stupid. Just trying to figure out more ideas that i can elaborate on. I don't care if it is a page or a sentence; anything helps.

  1. There's a really good book that addresses this issue. It's called "Youth Crisis" by Nanette Davis. Good luck on your paper.

Its kind of a survival mechanism.  Generally gangs are a symptom of poverty and strife, so people want to join forces with others who share their point of view.  Strength in numbers, check the history channel online, they have a program that features gngs in prison and foreign countries and in like Okland.
