How do spot a good subwoofer and amp?

I am no specialist in the car audio world. However, it interests me a lot. As of right now, I only know one thing to look for... RMS power. I know that more rms power means louder. But there are a bunch of other things that I don't understand... nor do i know if they are important to look at.

For example, sensitivity, Qms, mechanical excursion, frequency response... etc.

i don't know what these things mean, and i don't know if these things are even important. If someone can highlight what aspects of subwoofer and amp are important to look at, and what each of those mean...

much appreciated

  1. If you go to www.crutchfield.com they have a wealth of info about car audio, including definitions and what to look for when buying for your car. I would start there. Then look around the internet for other sites that provide info. Go to a few local car audio shops and ask for their advice. They usually love to talk audio, but make sure you have a grip on the lingo first.  Most people just learn by experience, although more expensive that way, certainly more fun in my opinion.
