  1. Steroids form an important group of compounds based on the fundamental saturated tetracyclic hydrocarbon : 1,2-cyclopentanoperhydrophenanthrene (sterane or gonane).(SEE link for diagram).

    There are no fatty acid - glycerol bonds as seen in fats, oils & waxes.
