Question:

How do surnames and royal houses work in a monarchy?

I am writing a story about a royal family, and I am aware that they do not use last names, only the royal house that they belong to. I also know that they DO have surnames, however. So, is the surname the same as the royal house name, or do I simply invent a last name that they do not use? (I like knowing first and last names) I'm new on the whole inner workings of royalty and monarchy, so any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

  2. In royalty, last names are not hidden, but they are not commonly used. Like queen elizabeth, we dont call her queen elizabeth windsor, (windsor being the surname), or elizabeth windsor, we simply call her the queen, or queen elizabeth.

  3. no they have sernames like the romanovs they were actually a family that had that surname but there were off branches of the same family that had diffrent surmanes from marriage althouigh they werre classified as Romanovs too.

  4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Wi...

  5. Usually the Royal House is the Surname, however, most of th queens children have used Mountbatten-Windsor as their surname to respect their father, Prince Charles used it on his wedding certificate as did Princess Anne, I'm not sure of the youngest two of the Queen's children.
