Question:

How do tariff points work?

I am a student in Ontario, Canada who is going into grade 12 and I am considering going to university in the UK. I've been on the UCAS site and, using it, have found a couple schools I am interested in applying to. I've been checking through the requirements, however, and find myself confused. One of the requirements is a certain amount of tariff points, but I honestly cannot understand what those are. I've tried to find out more about tariff points on the UCAS site, but I am only getting more confused. What are they and is it possible to somehow convert my current qualifications into these? I'm not really sure how it works. Please help me out!

  1. Well as the name implies it is a system, designed to award certain grades to a number.

    These are known as UCAS points or UMS points (these are more specific and refer to the subject itself)

    A = 120

    B= 100

    C= 80

    And so on. It carries on decreasing in 20s until U which doesnt get any points.

    But because you are not doing A levels you wont use this system. In each University website it outlines what international students need to gain. These are sometimes International Bacc or something. Detail is always on prospectus (start sending for them now) and on websites.
