How do teachers deal with results day?

of GCSEs or whatever they have in america. I am 16 and on 21st august i collect my results for my GCSEs. I am very nervous about meeting a teacher and having to talk to them, if I were to fail that subject. I also don't want to open my results in the same hall as my school, I want to do it in privacy. Obviously for everyone it is an emotional day, the day you find out if you have failed or passed. so to teachers, how do you deal with results day? do you talk to all your students or not?

my problem is that I got on very well with most my teachers but one inparticular. if i were to get a C in that subject and not a B, then I have failed for what I wanted. how can I avoid them even if it may seem rude to just collect the results and go!!

  1. Well you've finished school now so you can do what you like! I had pretty much the same experiences as the first person who gave an answer.

  2. I'm a teacher and I always go into school on results day to say goodbye to children who are leaving who I will miss. Remember teachers are under greater pressure than students to bring in the right results so they will be feeling a little stressed themselves. You wont have to speak to staff unless you want to and if you and this teacher dont get on then Id imagine the last thing they want to do in their holidays is chat to you, there's nothing worse than a student who has been difficult for 2 (or more) years coming up for a cosy chat. However you may be overestimating the teachers dislike for you, they were probably just giving you tough love. Sometimes as a teacher it is hard to bite your lip on results day, but professionalism dictates you must. Generally I am chuffed when kids do better than expected.

    Good luck

  3. Teachers will be there to add a sympathetic ear for those who did not do as well as they or the teachers expected, as well as to congratulate those who did better than they expected.

They will also be available to advise students on what they can do next.

Remember that you can go to college to get better GCSE' s as well as studying for BTech or A levels. TALK to your teachers about your options!!!

  4. I got my GCSE results 2 years ago (waiting for A level) and when i collected them it was in a big hall, but they were in envelopes so you could choose to open them there or later...the teachers are there to discuss things but  if you dont want to you can always open them at home or wait for them to be delivered by mail! Good luck :D

Oh and by the way, try to ignore all the radio and TV reports about exams getting easier...it can be a real downer if you get good results and are then told they dont mean anything but they do it every year, and the reporters dont do the exams so they dont know!

  5. I  am a teacher and I never go to school on results day...I'm too scared of being attacked by irate parents if their children fail. I sit and wait at home...often my students contact me to say thank you if they have done well. I will talk to students about their results, but not on the day. It's more meaningful a week later when the dust has settled.

  6. At my sons school you collected results in a large hall and it was done alphabetically so all your results were together and were handed over by staff in an envelope.  It was just luck as to which teacher handed over your envelope, but if you wanted you only had to speak to one teacher.

For GCSE results the staff were there to help check you had good enough results to continue with Alevels, and for Alevels the head of 6th form knew the results and was ready with numbers and contacts for children who had done better/worse than expected so they could immediately contact the universities.

You could collect results and leave the premises to open them.  read them calmly and then decide if you need to go back in and speak to the staff.  If not then head home.
