How do the Five Permanent Members of the U.N. Security Council relfect the U.N.'s effectiveness?

The United States, France, China, Britain, and Russia are the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. What does this say about the capability of the United Nations to effectively do anything?

  1. No doubt, Security Council needs to be expanded to make it a little bit more representative. Africa should be represented by South Africa, South Asia by India, Far East by Japan, South Pacific by Australia, South America by Brazil, and Germany should be added for its economic influence.  

    However, Security Council is not United Nations -- Some of the best work done by the UN is through its agencies, such as, Unesco, WHO, ILO, Unicef, UNHCR, etc.


  2. I think the voting process at the UN is to blame 1 vote and it is over.
