How do the Irish feel about tourists?

Question

Of course America is a great big melting pot, but my husband and I both have Irish ancestry (and other nationalities mixed in) but we feel this draw to actually go and see Ireland. We actually wanted to take our overdue honeymoon there. How do Irish people feel about tourists is what I've been wondering.

Most of the area's over in the West of ireland depend on tourism for a lot of their revenue. But even without that, the Irish are a friendly people and you will be welcomed. Enjoy your trip.

We don't mind tourists. Most people in Ireland are very welcoming. Have you ever heard of Cead Míle Failte? It means 100 thousand welcomes. Ireland is a great place to visit but you will never know what the weather will be like :) Just don't keep telling us that you are Irish because we don't really care. sorry :)

Tourism is a huge source of revenue for the Irish, so consequently tourists are welcome most wholeheartedly by almost all the populace.  Like anyplace, you may encounter a few difficult people, but it's rare.  Ireland is one of the leading countries in B&B and Homestay vacations, another indication of how much the people value tourism.

ETA: It's an absolute must for everyone to at least once in their lives visit the country of their heritage, so enjoy!

We love tourists and yous are always more than welcome!  Sometimes we do find Americans annoying..sorry..a bit loud and rude..we hate being told that your Irish too...that drives us crazy!..but seriously Ireland is a gorgeous country and it is good to find your roots and see where your family came from!also there are some spectactular sights in Ireland..if you do drop over..visit the Cliffs of Mohar..one place ive been that i can honestly say is breathtaking!its in Clare and quite easy to reach from Galway which is also another fantastic town..youl find alot of American tourists there!

We visited Ireland two years ago and I can honestly say that we did not encounter one unfriendly Irish. I'm sure that there are some in Ireland that do not like Americans, but you will find that the majority of the Irish are very friendly!

My grandfather's mother was born in Ireland and came to American in the early 1920's. I was able to do some research and found some of my grandfather's cousins who were still living in my great-grandmother's hometown of Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland. We were able to visit with them during our time in Ireland and it was truly the highlight of our visit. If you have details about your Irish heritage and you have an oppurtunity to do this - go for it! Our newfound family just came to America for the first time last year for my wedding...very special.
