  1. The Democrats used to be populists now the are psuedo communists wearing the disguise of socialism.

  2. 50 years ago I was a Democrat. The party lost it's way in 1968.

  3. They believed basically what Republicans believe today and were wonderful people. Dems today are immoral freaks with venom in their hearts and hatred of thier own country! Tsk Tsk.Republicans are basically the Dems 50 years ago and thats why I am a repub. Bye now!

  4. They lack a sense of humor and take jokes about their candidate's campaign too personally.

  5. they use to be for the working man , today they are just as dirty and corrupt as the repubs . which is why im voting for Nader .

  6. You had several dixiecrats who were pretty pissed about the democratic party taking civil rights stances.  So yeah, it would be different.  Many of those dixiecrats became Republicans and still are today.

  7. The democrats of today's party wouldn't recognize any of the values held by those of 50 years ago, it would be like reading mandarin chinese after speaking pig latin for your entire life.

  8. The list of current issues that the Democratic Party now supports, would be entirely shot down by almost any one living back in the 1960’s or prior, as totally off the wall unacceptable.

John F. Kennedy would not recognize his Party Platform today.

The Party of Inclusiveness, Diversity, Tolerance and Acceptance now has members supporting “CHRISTIANS should be NOT allowed to participate in ANY political process”….

Pure unadulterated BIGOTRY!... Then, they have the gall to call Christians bigots.

"The same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe -- the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God."

-- John F. Kennedy, in his 1961 Inaugural Address

Why was it okay when Kennedy said it, but verboten now?

  9. 50 years ago, Democrats generally supported discrimination on the basis of color of skin, infringing on the God-given rights of black persons. In 2008, Democrats generally support discrimination on the basis of stage of development, infringing on the God-given rights of embryonic and fetal persons.

  10. democrats of today are cowards who are afraid to really stand up for what they believe in. it all started when kennedy got shot. when there's a good democrat running for president or a president, they get threatened. barack obama isnt a true christian also not a true democrat. he's republican standing behind the democrats. he's a true muslim who will make this country worse that what it already is. hilary would've been the better choice for democratic nomination.

  11. Democrats from the 50s were splintered in regional areas and it wasn't unusual for those regional politics to clash with the partyline. Southern Democrats supported de facto racism to an extent, while Northerners had no interest in inteferring with some of the archaic Jim Crow laws.  In the early 60s we begin to see a major change in the party as liberal views from the civil rights movement perpetuated itself into the forefront.

Foreign policy was also very different. JFK's cabinet believed that the freer world - the democratic gov'ts were in danger of being under Communist influence especially in the wake of the Warsaw Pact in Eastern Europe.

  12. In 1958 the democratic party was split on the race issue, with the southern  democrats in support of segregation  while those in the north backing   civil rights laws, Ten year before in 1948 the southern democrats had waked out of the convention and run a "Dixiecrat" third party candidate when a pro civil right plank was put in the platform. The issue split the party for good with the passage of the Civil Rights bill of 1964, and a Democrat never again carried  the south in a presidential election. With the loss of the South the Democrats became a more liberal party and when the Cultural wars began in the 70's they took the pro choice side and began to attract the votes of the upper middle class, so they became advocates for the concerns of suburban voters such as gun control and the enviornment.

  13. The Democratic party split in two. The racist Dixiecrats (George Wallace and al) who advocated more state rights than federal now form the backbone of the Republican party. The reason they wanted more state rights was because they did not want to abide by anti-racist policies (like Brown vs. Board of Education). The party split for good and the Dixiecrats filled the ranks of the republican party.
