How do the huge cranes get on top of those huge buildings?

Question

Usually, when a huge building is being built, you see a huge crane on top of them.

When I see that, I just think how in the world they get those *huge* cranes on those *huge* buildings.

Do you know how they do that?

Some can actually hoist themselves. The tower part is a telescopic lattice frame that can shift its support to alternate segments, allowing a new component to be hoisted and slid in place (sometimes, this step is performed with the assistance of mobile cranes rented for this operation). Then, the top elements are hoisted in components which are then bolted on, spreading forward and aft (the aft is for the counter-balance weight), and the counter-weight is then also lifted and moved into place. The crane is then ready to perform is duty.

The steps are done in reverse at the end to dismantle the crane and ship it to its next contract.

I saw it once it was lift by a heavy duty helicopter then assemble it.

I believe they are assembled at the top, piece by piece.

The cranes are taken to the top of the buildings in pieces and then they are built together whilst up there.
