  1. Each dive has a degree of difficulty (shown as d.d.). The difficulty is predetermined based on how many flips, twists are done. You can see how it is actually determined on http://www.usadiving.org

There are 7 judges that score the dive from 0 (being the worse) to 10 (being the best) The highest and lowest two scores are dropped leaving 3 scores. Those three scores are added together and multiplied by the degree of difficulty to come up with a total.

So say for example a dive with a d.d. of 3.0 is done. The scores are 9 9 8.5 8.5 9 8 and 8.5 The two highest are 9 and 9, and the two lowest are 8 and 8.5 leaving an 8.5/8.5/9 left. Added together they equal 26. 26 multiplied by 3.0 = 78

  2. A panel of judges, from countries not competing, each give the diver a score out of ten (they take deductions for things like splash, feet apart, twisting too far, etc).

To get the final score, the median scores (aka the high and low scores are dropped) are added, and then that number is multiplied by the difficulty level of the dive.

  3. Judges deduct for things like not having the toes pointed, having the feet seperate, not being balanced on handstands, and too much splash on entry. There are 7 judges and the 2 highest and 2 lowest scores are cancelled  and the remaining 3 scores are added up and multiplied by the dive difficulty

  4. They give the dive a score on several factors,

    1) How hard the dive is. (ie how many spins they do etc)

2)How well it is executed. (ie whether there arms or loose or something)

    3) How much splash is made when they enter the pool. (not quite sure why it matters but if they go in vertically and so make less splash then it is a better dive than one that did not go in quite vertically)

I think there are about seven judges although i'm not sure and i think something like the best and worse score are excluded from the marks given. The othere are added up to give the score.
