How do the media give inaccurate portrayals of the forensic or frofiling functions?

  1. One problem is that juries now expect the full "CSI" treatment. Truth is the detail and speed shown in the shows doesn't happen. As example getting a DNA sample processed will take several days, not the few hours (minutes) the shows require.

    Most labs are overworked and underfunded. The massive staff with ultra modern equipment and unlimited budget is a fantasy.

    The news media buy in to this fable. There develops the assumption that all cases require such science. Seem to recall it's the plea deal that more often results in a conviction.


  2. You mean CSI?. TV is an idealized picture of what some ill educated Hollywood dork with minimal talent thinks is reality.
