My friend likes going to the mosque but says it's mainly old people so he doesn't form any close relationships with the people there. All the religions where I live have this same problem.

How can mosques encourage young people to attend the mosque more often?

  1. The love of Ahlebait (as) keeps me and all the Shia brothers and sisters going to the Imambargah. The owners of the Imambargah simply keep us aware of the events, otherwise, it's the miracle that each year the azadars of Imam Hussain (as) mourn for Him and His Grand Family on the Farsh-e-Aza who were sacrificed in Karbala.

  2. they can each day make the ppl in the 1st line write theire names in the paper they provide, and then the (prefering boys)give gifts to 1st 2nd 3rd person, who was in 1st line

  3. They distribute grenades for free.

  4. My dear Gehenna salam for you Fortunately alhamdulillah in Indonesia where 80% of its people are muslims there are many young people attending mosques regularly. It is caused by the muslim fathers who used to bring their sons since 4 to 5 years old to pray in togetherness at the mosques near their homes..It is an early education for children. The mothers often bring their daughters to the reciting Qur'an groups  or inviting ustadz to give islamic lesson at home at least once a week by wearing hijab. So there are many young girls wear hijab at schools and at the public places. Besides that there are many schools who give lessons about islamic religion and the schools have  mosques or mushollas too for practising salat in together ness between teachers and pupils every school day so they are accustomed to pray at the mosques or mushollas.Mosques in Indonesia are full of young and old muslims regularly.

  5. As an Ahmadi Muslim we have a youth group auxillary known as Khuddam ul Ahmadiyya.  The purpose of this youth group is to organize the youth to do constructive work and activities.

We'll get together to do a high way clean up, volunteer at a homeless shelter, tutor children at schools, or like this weekend, get together for an Ijtema.

At the Ijtema we have various competitions ranging from sports to Holy Qur'an memorization and recitation, impromptu speeches and poetry.

It's an atmosphere of inspiration and motivation, alhumdolillah.

  6. youth groups and programs are in english...that always gets the young adults and teens to show up.

actually, our mosque refused to put together a youth group, but 5 people stood up and organized one. now its a success with more people joining every month. you should try doing that.

  7. Kids as young as 5 or 6 years old come to the Masjid alone for every Salaah, they read Qur'aan by themselves and pray Sunnah without people asking them to and they'll even sit in the Duroos. So far I've observed this in about 4 Masaajid in my area.
