How do the present surveillance laws replicate our experience with the Alien and Sedition Acts?

  1. They are different.  The Sedition Act limited speech.  Current laws just monitor it.  I don't really see it as a replication.  

    The Alien Enemies Act is still in effect, and it is the one part that I think should remain in effect.  It is different than the Alien Friends Act, which I can see maybe being somewhat similar to some of our current policies... although our current policies fall more under the Enemies Act.
