  1. When you are in a dark room, your pupils in your eyes adjust to the light in order to make your vision most efficient. If you turn on a regular flashlight, your pupils go crazy not sure whether to adjust to the darkness or light. you lose your night vision this way. However, if it has a red pigment, it will confuse your eyes so much so.

  2. When light penetrates water, the most energetic wavelengths penetrate the furthest ie.blue light. Red light (least energetic) is absorbed  at shallower depths and will not reach the seaweeds. Thus the red pigments in the seaweeds enable the blue light to be absorbed (remember things are red because they absorb all other wavelengths except red).

  3. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

  4. Red pigment picks up the spectrum of light that can go through deep water.  I believe its the blue light.  Red seaweeds are found in deep ocean water and can metabolize that spectrum.
