How do the rules for attacking in Risk work?

This is a a question for the board game risk, the new version.

I read the manual and the instructions are a bit confusing.

So if you attack a territory and defeat it are you allowed to use a completely different territory and attack another territory? or attack with other territories even if you did not capture one yet?

OR is it that you can only use one starting territory to attack and you can only use that same army to attack other territories and capture and move on to capture/attack other territories?

  1. as long enemy is one space away from one of your territories that has more than one soldiers in it you can keep attacking if you had enough soldiers you could take over the world in one turn you CAN NOT attack with a territory that has less than two soldiers. When attacking you can roll 1 dice when attacking with 2 soldiers 2 dice with 3 soldiers 3 dice with 4 soldiers one soldier must stay behind so there should never be a territory un-occupied.Good luck!

  2. Okay not sure whether the versions differ but this is my understanding:

I believe the first scenario you outlined is correct. You can attack as many times as you want with as many territories as you want (provided it's one territory vs a defending territory).

  3. yes, you can attack with a completely different territory as long as those territories have more than one army, you can attack until you have no extra armies.

your second scenario is a failed strategy. read the rules again. They aren't that different.

  4. In answering such questions, always consider what scenario leads to more fun and better strategic gameplay. That rule is usualy the best rule to follow.

To answer your questions directly, yes you can attack from as many to one and from as one to as many as you like as long as you have enough armies to transfer to the new territory if you successfully conquered it.

The rules in Risk are always logical so that you don't end up doing something wrong, for example, leave a territory army-free.

In addition, you need to know that since Risk is relatively old and many different international versions exist, players use many different versions which are sometimes even better than the classic rules.

Have a look at online Risk game sites with a vast number of new maps and variations to get a feel of the art of possible.

  5. You can only attack adjacent territories to the territory you're attacking from... either territories that have a common border with your own, or territories that are connected with the dotted lines (e.g. Alaska and Kamchatka).

You must have at least 1 more army in your attacking territory than the number of dice you throw.  So you must have at least 2 armies in a territory in order to attack from that territory.  If you have 3 or more armies, you can roll up to wo dice.... if you have 4 or more armies, you can roll up to all three dice.  But if you only have 2 armies, you can only roll one die.

You can only attack one territory at a time, form one territory at a time.

In case of a tie in the dice rolls, the defender always wins.
