Also, the food reserves.  In conifers the food reserve for the embryo is what remains of the megagametophyte.  In angiosperm seeds the food reserve for the embryo is either endosperm (which resulted from a second fertilization as in "double fertilization") for monocots or in the cotyledons of dicots (the endosperm is taken up by the cotyledons during maturation of the embryo).


  2. Angiosperm seeds are encased in a fruit, the ripened ovaries of the plant. Conifers, or gymnosperms, have naked seeds, such as a pine cone.
