  1. It is an estimate.

    There are variations in population growth depending on war, famine and the like.

    They do have access to figures from all countries regarding birth and death rates, but some countries are better than others at recording them.

  3. thye never get it right it is a educated guess based on the facts available at the time, when dealing with population a lot of variables are involved and it is not exact calculation at all.
