  1. Well not knowing previously to this question what either term meant. i've found that Wiki describes Kampfingen as

"Kampfringen ("combat grappling") was the term used for unarmed combat systems originating in the Holy Roman Empire during the Middle Ages and Renaissance."

And Ringen was one of these arts that fell under the term Kampfringen.

  2. What you've got yourself is a sport that hasn't been translated from its own language. Ringen is the german word for wrestling, kampf is struggle/fight.

Kampf is also used in the general context of Kampfsportart, meaning martial arts. or directly translated as "fight sport arts".

Here (germany!), kampfringen is used to denote the practice of a sport, not just wrestling a man to the ground on a night out.

I've never heard of anybody outside of germany who would say they learn ringen. But here we have both the typical greco roman and freestyle categories.

    Hope that clears the confusion!

  3. never heard of either of these.
